Today we went to St. Mary's Glacier. Dad and I hiked this trail once before on
September 22, and it was much different this time. We were excited to show Mike this cool spot and travel a little further up the glacier then we had before. It was the perfect day for a hike - bright blue skies crisp mountain air, warm sun shining down...
We made it up to the lake with relative ease. It was frozen, so we decided to stand on it with the glacier behind us.
And stopped for a homemade jerky snack.
As we headed up the glacier, the wind picked up and swirled the snow around in tornadoes.
We stopped for another snack - oranges. Man were they good! Fruit tastes so much sweeter when you've "earned it."
Almost up to our stopping point.
We made it to the overlook and contemplated trying to summit one of the peaks but decided to save that for the next time and just enjoyed the views.
We topped out around 11,800 feet and started our way back down.
The wind up there creates all kinds interesting shapes in the snow. This piece, suspended on the left side just hung there.
We stopped a little further down to show the awesome snow waves.
