Friday, Dad's here! So we're going hiking! Summit got him a Best Hikes with Dogs book for Christmas and he read about the dog-friendly hikes in Castlewood Canyon down near Castle Rock, so we decided to check them out.
Summit got her first taste of water in the river that runs through the canyon. We knew that she loved the bath tub but boy did she
love the river! She got so excited, she almost pulled Mike in with her and got a huge case of the puppy zoommies!
There are some really awesome features along this six mile hike. One of which is an old dam, built in the 1890s. Apparently it burst in 1933, sending a 15-foot wall of water into Denver. The ruins are all that are left today.
Along the river, there are some really great rocks that are worn smooth from years of rushing water over and around them. This one even created a little wading pool.
There are some awesome trees and great overlooks throughout the trail.
About halfway, you get a great view of Pike's Peak. Eventually, we'll save up for a more powerful camera that will capture the mountains more as we see them.
Some of the other interesting rock formations - this section within a huge boulder, just seemed out of place. Within a composite rock, there were these sheets of something else.

We found this hole in the rock - proof that Sasquatch has traveled these parts.
The hike was wonderful, but wore us out. Mike and Summy were the first to succumb.
Saturday, we went exploring around town and ended up downtown wandering around.
